It’s beginning to look a lot like Halloween! I love it! If you were following me since last year you know that I went HAM on the DIY Halloween costume ideas last year. From a DIY Pennywise but Make It Fashion costume, to a low key Slytherin costume, to fortune tellers, to my most recent DIY Garden Fairy creations. Continuing on with this sustainable spooky season I wanted to share 4 easy DIY Halloween costume ideas using something everyone probably has at least one of in their closet, a black dress!
4 DIY Black Dress Halloween Costumes to Try
She’s a Witch
There’s not a Halloween that passes by that I don’t dress up as a witch at least once. It’s such a classic costume idea that’s open to interpretation. For this look I picked out this black baby doll dress from my closet for flirty witch vibes. All you need is a broom and a cheap witch hat at the least or you can go all out with fancier props and accessories. I added a wide waist corset belt, tights, and heeled combat boots to complete this DIY Halloween costume.
Ghostface Scream Movie Killer
Speaking of slashing, this stylish Ghostface Scream Movie Killer is everything you didn’t know you wanted to be for Halloween! All you need is the Scream mask, a fake knife (found mine at the Dollar Tree), and you’re good to go make some calls and “house visits”.
Plague Doctor
We’re still in a panny right?! Why not go for a Plague Doctor costume idea? I paired a Who What Wear maxi dress with a thrifted London Fog blazer, and my wide brim felt hat for the base of the look. The props you’ll need are plague doctor mask, lantern, and a cane. I made the cane with a broomstick and a plastic skull from the Dollartree.
Grim Reaper
Maybe you’re not hear for saving souls this Halloween. Maybe you’re into taking them?! Try a DIY grim reaper halloween costume idea. I found the mask at Goodwill and the cape from Party City. Just like the Plague Doctor’s cane, I DIY’d it with a broomstick, poster board, skulls (fake ones), and metallic spray paint. You can see a video for how I made the scythe on my Instagram or on Pinterest.
I had so much fun whipping up these DIY Black Dress Halloween costumes and I hope you find it helpful. Share this post on social media and save as a Last Minute Halloween Idea for those 11th hour creatures in your life.
