I must say that October has the best ending out of all the months. You get to enjoy dressing up in costume, decorating , and eating candy with you fam and friends. There was an office party at work and the fun continued for me with my fam. Every year we go to this one particular community that’s known for going all out for Halloween and giving out treats. They did not disappoint this year at all.
Kem cosplayed a character on his favorite game (Super Smash Bro’s) called Sans. I don’t know y’all. I had too Google who the character was. Ha! I know the characters I grew up playing with like Link from Zelda, Mario, and the rest of the gang. Regardless the nerd in me was excited that Kem wanted to cosplay. Maybe it’s something we’ll do together next Halloween.
My costume was 100% DIY using pieces I already had in my closet. The costume selection for plus women this year looked pretty much like it has for years, not true to size, whomp, and quality *clears throat* challenged.
So I paired a vintage lace dress over a t-shirt (office modesty) and a mesh layered maxi skirt from Who What Wear collection. To create some ruching I tucked the front part of the lace dress under a western style belt from Eloquii. I added some Dollar Tree flowers with eyeballs and spiders on them to create a creepy flower crown. Y’all can see I put no effort into that crown. I literally stuck the flowers in my hair and bent their wiry stems into a crown shape. Takes 5 seconds I promise.
Stage Fright?
I did a half hour oral presentation for work this month too and let me tell you. Anxiety is something else. I had difficulty eating and drinking as I got closer to the day. Nevertheless I did it. I was scared, but I did it anyways. Something I’ve been personally pushing myself to do every single day is to just give the little voice that tries talking you out of the decisions (big or small ) you really want to make a big F U and do it anyways.
Plant Lady
I bought a couple of new plants this month. Crazy plant lady in the making here! I took a trip to a local plant spot called Tallahassee Nurseries just to pick up this string of pearls plant that was on my plant wishlist. I also recently bought a snake plant from Home Depot. My first one has grown so much and has required the least amount of maintenance. I like that so I might just become a mother of whole lotta snake plants!
Hey November
As someone who loves our traditional Thanksgiving meal and also the one to cook it, I’m excited and exhausted for Thanksgiving. Caribbean potato stuffing is my favorite part of the Thanksgiving meal and pumpkin pie is my favorite dessert.
I’m also excited for Black Friday shopping because we need some things for the new house. We’ve been intentionally holding out for big sales which means bigger savings.
The North Florida Fair is coming up this month too and I think Kemal is more excited than anyone. We usually get him an unlimited ride ticket and watch him have a blast as we enjoy the carnival foods. We may go on a ride or two, but that’s about it.
Also I know it’s November, but Mariah Carey and the rest of the world definitely has Christmas on the brain.
So there’s that! I think I’ll be doing real, everyday life posts like this a bit more often. I kinda miss when IG and all the other platforms were as simple as snapping cellphone pics and sharing what’s up. Kind of like a journal, but for everyone to see. I like it. Enjoy your November and see ya in the next monthly recap!
