Y’all I saw a tweet that included plus size peplum tops as a trend to cancel?!!! When I read that my reaction was definitely…
Y’all I’m 100% here for plus size peplum tops and I’ve always been here for them. I just find them to be great for defining a waist line and accentuating curves. If you don’t have curves it’s likely to create the illusion of curves too! Now I’m not super pressed to define my curves on every look, but I always recommend peplum tops for that.
So needless to say, I’m pleading my case for plus size peplums by:
- sharing my favorite ways to wear them,
- how to spot the best peplums, and
- links to some to buy and try out this Spring!

Favorite Ways to Wear Plus Size Peplum Tops
With Skinny or Straight Jeans
I recently picked up this Victorian style inspired plus size peplum top and styles it with these floral Jessica Simpson jeans.
And Pencil Skirts
Similar to skinny jeans, pencil skirts hugs your upper thighs and hips bringing the focus to the flared waistline of the peplum.
With Shorts
If the peplum trend holds up I’m pretty sure We’ll be seeing more embroidered, puff sleeved, islet adorned plus size peplum tops for summer. I love when they’re made in light yet structured fabrics because it’s practical for the summer heat and the peplum stands upright!
As a peplum top veteran, I will admit that there are peplum tops that deserve to be cancelled. It almost always has to do with a peplum failure. The best peplums actually stand on end and do what they were meant to do. The cancel worthy peplum tops end up looking like shirts with a random and awkwardly placed seam in the midsection. No ruffles, structure, just blah. Be mindful of heavy materials, and poor peplum placement! Now say that last part 3 times fast. Long story short if doesn’t look stellar and stand on end on the model, it’s likely to be just as drab in person.
